Happy 2014, everyone! How many of you are looking to lose weight as your New Years' resolution? Well, let me be one of the first to say, "You can do it!" Don't listen to those berating statistics that say most people give up on their weight loss resolutions by the end of the first couple weeks or whatever. MY New Years' resolution a couple years ago was to lose weight, and I got down twenty-five pounds. It just takes a little determination not to be deterred by others. What you eat is YOUR choice, not anybody elses, no matter how it seems. Just remember that, and you'll do fine.
Anyway, one easy way to kick start that weight loss is to replace your calorie-laden sweets with something healthier and more portion-controlled. Lo and behold, Fiber One has created a variety of 90 calorie treats so you can indulge without breaking the caloric bank. I've already tried their 90 Calorie Lemon Bar, and today I'll be taste-testing their Chocolate Fudge Brownie flavor. A 5.34 oz. box containing six small 0.89 oz. brownies costs around $2.98.
One 25g brownie contains 90 calories, 25 of them being from fa t, 3g of total fat, 1.5g of saturated fat, 0g of trans fat, 0mg of cholesterol, 100mg of sodium, 18g of total carbohydrates, 5g of dietary fiber, 8g of sugar, and 1g of protein.
What we got here is a small, somewhat dense brownie with a thin chocolate drizzle and chocolate chips hidden on the inside. As I took the brownie outside of its wrapper, I was greeted with the strong, sweet smell of cocoa- quite similar to a real brownie.
I didn't have too high of hopes for a 90 calorie, commercial brownie (especially since I didn't think much of Fiber One's 90 Calorie Lemon Bar), but at first bite my doubtful thoughts were sufficiently suppressed. The brownie was very sweet and fudgey- not exactly like a total brownie in flavor but more like a cross between that and chocolate cake in taste. Unlike the Lemon Bar, this Fiber One treat was quite moist and felt like a real dessert. Its somewhat dense, cake-like texture melted in my mouth and was a treat to enjoy. It was very chocolatey, with the smooth, solid chocolate chips baked on the inside adding extra sweet bursts of chocolate flavor. Just a couple complaints on this one: Although I've said this brownie is somewhat dense, I've been using "somewhat" as frequently as possible since this treat is also a bit on the airy side. Fiber One's Chocolate Fudge Brownie is a rather crumbly as well, but not too badly.
Overall, I enjoyed Fiber One's Chocolate Fudge Brownie- so much to the point that I had two! They are very delicious and a great substitute for your average, fatty, sugary, calorie-packed fudge brownies. If you're looking for a way to indulge while on a diet, here's a solid option for you. I would certainly buy Fiber One's 90 Calorie Chocolate Fudge Brownies again. They are a fantastic and stunningly rather healthy, quite satisfying brownie-esque treat.
I'd give Fiber One's 90 Calorie Chocolate Fudge Brownie a 9/10.
